Tue, 03/09/2010 - 08:40

A mighty King was marching home after being victorious in a gruesome battle. He had captured the crown prince of the neighbouring kingdom and killed the King. The King was crossing through a jungle. He wanted to rest.

The army halted there for the evening. Nearby was a hermitage. The king decided to pay his respects to the sage there. He sent his Minister and some soldiers to seek an audience. They told the disciples there, "Maharaj wants to meet the sage." The disciples said, "Guruji has retired for the day, you can come tomorrow."

The next morning the King came to the hermitage dressed in his royal finery, accompanied by his ministers and attendants. The sage was sitting under a tree and scattering bajra seeds all around. Hundreds of birds of different kinds were eating and the sound of their twittering filled the air. The King walked up to the sage. The sage did not look up. The king said, "Pranam, Guruji!" How To Become A Dad

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 08:34

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter.

She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.

'Why?' my daughter asked. 'Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and probably has germs' I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, 'Momma, how do you know all this stuff, you are so smart.'

I was thinking quickly. 'All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mom Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mom.' We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

Hot chillies can prevent diabetes, heart disease

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 08:22

Sydney: An Indian researcher has found that the flavour-potent chilli could wallop diabetes and cardiovascular disease which are the leading cause of mortality in developed countries.

University of Tasmania School of Human Life Sciences research fellow Kiran Ahuja said it was possible that one day chillies would replace aspirin, or be combined with aspirin as a medication for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

"Aspirin... has a nasty side effect, which causes stomach bleeding in patients," said Ahuja.

The university research team is investigating the biological activity of two of its active ingredients - capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin.

Their work has shown that the capsaicinoid chemicals have the potential to lower blood glucose and insulin levels, reduce the formation of fatty deposits on artery walls and prevent blood clots - minus some of the nasty side-effects of traditional medications.

He Wasn't Always Alexander Graham Bell
At first, he was just Alexander Bell. When he turned ten though, he begged his parents to give him a middle name like they had given to each of his brothers. It wasn't until his 11th birthday that the famous "Graham" was added to his name. His father chose the name in honor of a family friend, Alexander Graham, who had boarded with the family.

Of course, his family continued to just call him "Aleck" throughout his life. When he was married to his wife (seen with him in the above image) though, she insisted that he begin calling himself "Alec" and from that point on, he started signing his name as "Alec Bell."

Alluring Aphrodisiacs

Sat, 03/06/2010 - 11:29

Eroticism is not just the pursuit of better sex. Nor is there a better or a more successful aphrodisiac other than the human mind. But, there is something about cultivating a life of heightened sexuality, and revving up desire. Enter: alternative sources of arousal.

Perfumes: Intimate and seductive, perfumes have a direct magical link to our moods. Violet was the personal statement of Josephine Bonaparte, who believed in its aphrodisiacal power, a scent that heightens only to disappear without a trace--then return. Try these, even their names are suggestive: Obsession, Silences, Mystique, Joy, Contradiction…

The Food Of Love: A passage from Aphrodite, Isabel Allende's engrossing book on aphrodisiacs, verbalises the appeal of food. "The most intense carnal pleasure, enjoyed in a clandestine bed, a perfect combination of caresses, laughter and games has the taste of, French cheese…That bread with ham and cheese brings back the essence of our embraces, and that German wine, the taste of his lips. I cannot separate aphrodisiacs from food." Need one say more?
